UKBFTOG’S at 28 Years Later Premiere Red Carpet

Within a male dominated industry it’s of course easy to not see ourselves and one of the things we have really pushed over the years is giving our community members access and new opportunities, giving them experiences. One of our recent access opportunities was giving to one of our members Funmi, she specialises in Portrait & Event Photography.

We asked her a couple questions about her experience and here is what she had to say:

What was the most daunting part about doing press photography, especially if was your first time?

I wasn’t sure what kit to pack, especially the lenses. I searched online and also asked in the UKBFTOG Facebook group. I got a lot of helpful tips, then packed as many lenses as I could fit in my bag (LOL)! When I arrived at the venue and saw other press photographers with their kit and stools, I felt slightly intimidated, especially since I didn’t have a clue and also didn’t really know how the event would pan out – where would I be standing, would I get a good enough view.

What did this experience do for you?

As soon as my name was drawn and I positioned myself amongst the other photographers I felt a lot more relaxed and couldn’t wait for the event to begin. While waiting for the talent to arrive, I tested my camera settings and opted to use only one of the lenses I brought along with me. I found the other photographers around me to be quite friendly. All-in-all, I found the event really enjoyable.

What kit did you use?

Canon EOS 6D and Canon 70-300mm lens

What advise would you give someone who has never done press photography before?
Don’t overthink things. Enjoy the moment. It flies by so quickly.

Funmi you did an amazing job and happy we could give you this opportunity!
